The Cloves are quickly making a name for themselves in the Seattle
music scene. After only playing six shows with a full line up the
band scored a headline slot at Seattle's famous Showbox Theater, and
then played to a sold out Triple Door. With their sound being
compared to bands such as Travis, Doves, and Coldplay, they are also
getting noticed overseas. Allen Mcgee's now defunct record label
Creation, which discovered British phenomns Oasis, said this on their
website (creation-records.com). "Coming out of Seattle, USA... these
are no grunge-kids. The Cloves come from the same mold as The Byrds
and Teenage Fanclub to give you some classic songwriting with tunes
that make summer great."
The songwriting nucleus of the band comes from the little town of
Sumner, WA. Childhood friends, Michael Hochstatter and Kevin
Poleskie-living on the same street since the age of six-began writing
songs together while in high school. Michael mysteriously fell ill
forcing him to give up all extra curricular activities which then
influenced him to turn to songwriting as a creative outlet. While
Kevin attended Western Washington University Michael flew to North
Carolina to see a specialist were he was diagnosed with Chronic
Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome.
With Michael's health improving and Kevin fresh out of college, the
two decided to start a band with all the songs they had compiled
together. Through placing ads in the local paper, The Stranger, they
found lead guitarist Chris Walbridge and drummer Jason Maybell. Chris
a recent UW graduate and Jason who recently recorded on sessions with
Brandi Carlile-overseen by producer/mogul Rick Ruben-proved to be a
perfect fit.
The Cloves debut EP, Waiting For The For The World To Be is scheduled
to be released on March 29th of 2005. The six song EP was recorded
over a four week span in a variety of Seattle studios including
Studio
Litho-owned by Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard. The project was
produced by Ashley Stubbert who engineered on such records as Pearl
Jam's Binaural (produced by the famed Tchad Blake) and The
Walkabouts'
Train Leaves At Eight (produced by Kevin Suggs).
