“Using music technology, compositions are based upon orchestrated beat soundtracks, not confined to any musical genre in particular.”

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NYC, Casey pka Schpilkas was exposed to music early in life, studying classical piano at the age of 5. Introduced to his first synthesizer in pre-pubescence, he taught himself the fundamentals of M.I.D.I. sequencing and synthesis through sequencing works of Bach, Schumann, Handel and other music by ear.

Accepted to La Guardia School of Music and Performing Arts in NYC, Casey began to study the viola. In a few short years, he garnered a seat in the senior orchestra. Through moving arrangements and the combined dynamic strength of the combined instruments, Casey developed a deep lasting impression of live orchestral music.

Having a broad appreciation and ear for all kings of music from rock to urban, a relocation to Los Angeles, CA in the early 90’s brought exposure to underground electronic music ala artists/producers Underworld and The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett which became major influences. During this time, Casey entered the music industry through marketing and promotions for various indie labels.

A colleague commented “you’ve got schpilkas” and the word schpilkas was adopted as a name. As a multi-instrumentalist, Schpilkas crafts a unique production style, predominately rhythm based with combinations of acoustic and electronic elements. In the mid-90’s, live productions were heard by audiences around Los Angeles hotspots such as: The Dragonfly, The Joint, Green Space (hosted by Public Space at Woody Harrelson’s O2 Bar), Opium Den, Spaceland, The Whiskey and Datum (hosted by Ritual Events at Mamagaya).

In 2000, as a grand prizewinner of the Tommy Hilfiger unreleased cuts contest for unknown producers and musicians, Schpilkas was featured in the 2000 issues of Rolling Stone and Urb magazines, and was granted a Qwest Records/WB recording demo deal. The following years, Schpilkas worked on promoting and marketing other artists until deciding to return to his own productions. His goal is to create a hybrid of music for all mediums: film, television, dance--in tandem with producing and working with other artists.

“I want to create music that strikes a chord with people, that can be appreciated by anybody. Music that even yourbaldheadedgranny can bop her head to.”
