Whether alone with a piano or guitar, or embedded in its lush, swirling
instrumentation, Sara Melson's voice weaves soothing, psychedelic
dreams that cut right to the soul.
Sara Melson grew up in a small town in Indiana, memorizing albums by
the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Band, Joni Mitchell, Dylan,
James Taylor, and early Bowie. Now based in Los Angeles, she plays both
with and without a band, and is equally comfortable on piano and
guitar. Her traditionally crafted folk-pop songs are filtered through a
moody, psychedelic dreamscape. The first track of "Sara Melson: Five
Song EP," was selected by Launch.com as one of the Top Ten Picks in
their "Cool as Folk" Radiocast, along with Beck, Nick Drake and Sondre
Lerche. Melson has been aired on Indie 103.1 by DJ Mark Sovel, XM
Satellite Radio by DJ Billy Zero, and on KCRW by DJ's Gary Calamar and
Greg Daponte. She has opened for Ben Lee, Juliana Hatfield, Jill
Sobule, Ian Ball (of Gomez), Marjorie Faire, Beachwood Sparks, and the
BRMC, among others.
In short Sara Melson's radio friendly sensibility, her lush voice, and
pretty songs about love, life, and everything in between make her a
strong choice for music supervisors alike. A definite one to watch.
